สำหรับ IELTS Writing เรื่องพื้นฐานต่างๆ ยังคงออกเช่นเดิม อาทิ หัวข้อการศึกษา สุขภาพ สิ่งแวดล้อม การท่องเที่ยว การทำงานในทุกๆ ปี
อย่างไรก็ตามในช่วง 2-3 ปีที่ผ่านมานี้ มีหัวข้อที่เกี่ยวข้องกับแนวความคิดสมัยใหม่ที่ออกบ่อยซึ่งในอดีตไม่ค่อยออก อาทิ

คำแนะนำคือ
-ควรเตรียม collocation คลังคำ ในหัวข้อพื้นฐานไปตามเดิม โดยเฉพาะหัวข้อที่ไม่ถนัด
-อ่านข่าวต่างๆ มากขึ้นเพื่ออัพเดตแนวคิดที่เป็นเทรนด์ในยุคปัจจุบัน
-ในการเตรียมคำศัพท์ไม่ควรท่องไปอย่างเดียว เพราะอาจใช้ผิดบริบทและจะลืมได้ง่าย แต่ควรเตรียมศัพท์เป็นแบบ collocation ที่เข้าคู่กัน พยายามอ่านข่าวและบทความภาษาอังกฤษมากๆ จะทำให้เข้าใจบริบทการใช้ศัพท์และจำศัพท์ได้อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติโดยไม่ต้องท่องไป

สำหรับ Speaking นั้น หัวข้อที่ออกก็จะมีประมาณไม่เกิน 20 หัวข้อหลักๆด้วยกัน ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่ก็มักจะเป็นเรื่องทั่วๆไปที่มักจะออกในข้อสอบ IELTS Speaking มาทุกๆปีอยู่แล้ว เช่น Food, Health, Environment, Hometown, Books และ Films เป็นต้น แต่อาจจะมีคำถามใหม่ๆที่เราไม่คาดคิด เช่น เรื่อง Ocean หรือเรื่องนโยบายระหว่างประเทศ ทั้งนี้เราสามารถเตรียมตัวโดยการฝึกตอบคำถามในแต่ละหมวด ถ้าเราฝึกพูด โดยมีคลังคำศัพท์และมีเนื้อหาในคลังสมองของเราเยอะ ไม่ว่า Examiner จะถามคำถามไหน เราก็มักจะคิดหาคำตอบได้เพราะเรามีคำศัพท์และความรู้ที่เราเตรียมมาค่ะ
